If you are a complete beginner, we recommend that you attend one of our 2-hour Absolute Basics workshops first! The next workshop will be on 4th May 2024, 2.30-4.30pm (Cost: £22 (£25 including shoe hire)

Suitable for complete beginners, those who haven’t tapped for a while, or more experienced tappers who want to refine their technique.  After a simple warm-up, the first half of the class consists of learning steps, amalgamations and rhythm exercises.  During the second half of the class we gradually build up a routine over 4 or 5 weeks.  The emphasis is on learning tap in a fun, relaxed atmosphere to a wonderful soundtrack of jazz, blues and the best of the musicals. 

Tap Shoes – most sizes available to hire for a small charge – must be booked in advance

Assistant Teacher – Katherine Drake

Katherine has been tap dancing since she was 7 years old and has never stopped!  She has been assisting Sue for the past 10 years and is on hand to specifically look after any newcomers to the Beginners/Improvers class. Her warm personality and tremendous patience put beginners at their ease instantly. As well as being an accomplished tap dancer, Katherine is also a fully qualified Engineer. “…I get great pleasure from leaving the kids and work worries at home, putting on my tap shoes and bashing the floor. It’s wonderful exercise for both the body and the brain and I hope to keep tapping for as long as I possibly can!…”

For the more experienced tap dancer, Inter/Advanced level classes are a faster pace with more challenging combinations and rhythms.  Soundtrack varies from jazz and blues through to Latin, hip hop and not forgetting those classics from the Hollywood era.

Start from the very beginning and learn the basics of tap in these  2-hour workshops. These taster sessions are suitable for adults and teenagers who have never tapped before, or who need a refresher class. (Accompanied, younger children can be accommodated  by prior arrangement). A relaxed and lighthearted atmosphere in which to learn the basics, improve technique and have fun with rhythm!  Some shoes are available to hire (must be booked in advance).

Please contact sue@feetbeats.com to discuss your requirements.  Hire of tap shoes can be arranged for smaller groups. You will need to supply a dance space with a suitable, hard floor. Cost is dependent on the length of the session and travel expenses.

Perhaps you would like to start from scratch with individual lessons to build up your confidence, or brush up on your skills if you haven’t tapped for a while. Tuition and choreography for competitions, auditions, or festival dances can also be arranged.  You may even be considering that First Dance at your wedding – Fred and Ginger style!
